Food-Grade Dry Bulk Trucking from Iowa
Food-grade bulk since 1930 · One call reaches a real person · 99% on-time
Dry bulk food ingredients are only as safe as the trailer they ride in. Jensen Transport has been a family-run, food-grade carrier since 1930, and our dry bulk trailers are built for the food market.
What our dry bulk service is
Pneumatic food-grade dry bulk hauling: powders, flours, starches and similar ingredients, loaded at your plant and delivered to the customer.
Equipment
- Food-grade, kosher-approved aluminum pneumatic trailers.
- Heil trailers, chosen for food-safety best practices.
- All rib supports are on the outside of the trailer, so the interior has no ledges to hold microbiological contaminants.
- Dry bulk loads of up to 52,000 lbs.
Products we haul
Dry products we haul include:
- Flours: corn, wheat, rice, oat, soy and barley flour.
- Starches: corn starch, modified corn starch, tapioca starch and potato starch.
- Milled corn products: corn grits and corn meal.
- Soy products: soy flour and soy flakes.
- Sugars: dextrose and sucrose.
- Oat products: rolled and quick oats and oat flour.
- Other food-grade dry ingredients: such as dextrins and food-grade salt.
Industrial and feed-grade products. We can also haul some industrial and feed-grade dry products. Those loads ride only in trailers dedicated to them, under a long-term contract, and those trailers never go back into food service. Request a quote and tell us what you ship.
Not sure, or don’t see your product? If your liquid or dry product isn’t on our list, or you’re not sure it’s a fit, contact us. Call 1-800-772-1734 or send us a message and we’ll tell you whether we can haul it.
Food-safety standards
A smooth interior is the point of the design: nothing inside for product to hang up on or for contaminants to hide behind. Our food hauling follows the FSMA Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food rule.
Wash and inspection between loads
Before a trailer is loaded with food-grade product, it is washed to the shipper’s requirements for the load it just carried, and the wash is documented on a wash ticket. The trailer is inspected before loading. We check the prior-load history against the shipper’s approved priors list, so a trailer loads only if what it hauled last is on that list. If a prior load calls for a more thorough wash, that is done before the trailer is cleared to load. The exact steps depend on each shipper’s requirements, and we follow them.
Dedicated trailers available. For shippers who want added food safety and product security, we can dedicate trailers to your product only, so they never carry anything else. Ask us when you request a quote.
Who it is for
Bakeries, cereal and snack makers, ingredient processors, millers and distributors who move food-grade powders in bulk, and the plant logistics and purchasing managers behind them. We support Midwest farmers by hauling the food ingredients made from the corn and soybeans they grow, and our dry bulk trailers are part of that supply chain.
Areas served
We run from our headquarters in Independence, Iowa and serve shippers in Cedar Rapids, Keokuk and Eddyville, Iowa, and Decatur, Illinois. We are a regional carrier: most of our freight runs across the Midwest, and we also haul into Canada. See all areas we serve.
Dry bulk FAQ
Are the trailers kosher approved? Yes. Our dry bulk fleet is food-grade and kosher approved. Our kosher certification is from the Orthodox Union (OU): download our current kosher certificate.
Why do the rib supports matter? With ribs on the outside, the inside wall is smooth. No interior ledges means fewer places for product or microbiological contaminants to collect.
How much can a dry bulk load weigh? Up to 52,000 lbs.
Can you unload by pneumatic transfer? Our trailers are pneumatic. Tell us about your receiving setup when you request a quote.
Do you haul to Canada? Yes, we haul into Canada.
Can dry bulk trailers also work at a rail site? Yes, see transloading.
